Cinder Falls. Desolate. Empty. The only place where I was guaranteed to not run into any wolves. Hopefully. I never really knew anymore with the packs all running around now. It was hard to find a place that really was empty of wolves. So far, Cinder Falls had been promising. I'd visited the falls at least twice now, and never run into anyone. Which is exactly what I want. Though it's a little uncomfortable being so close to Regnum de Mors territory.
I shiver slightly. I shouldn't be cold around Regnum territory, but the shivers are more from the closeness to the crashing waterfalls then the cold. I grip the edge of the cliff drop off with my paws, leaning back away from the edge. The water is violent; cascading down the rock face like a pack of angry wolves rushing into a pack war. I'm mesmerized by the flowing water. I can feel my heart jump into my throat as it closes up. My legs are jerking as the shudders racing through my body increase in tempo. It's becoming hard to breathe now. Still the water holds me in place. It's so strong, and swift.
A whimper rises up in my throat. Water. I need it so much, but I fear it far more. My legs unfreeze and I trip over myself as I back hastily away from the cliff edge and the crashing falls before me. My back paws slip and I tumble to the ground, my legs a tangle. I remain on my ground, my breathe wheezing out of my lungs. I've still shaking, my heart thundering in my chest. My jaw hurts where I smacked it on a rock when I fell. I close my blue eyes briefly and let out a low, long whimper. I hate my life. I wish I was dead. If I had the courage I'd jump off the cliff and into the water below. Yet, the thought of water closing over my head, filling my mouth, nose, ears, eyes; it terrifies me. I could never do it.
I push my self up onto my haunches, wincing at the dull throbbing pain in my jaw. There's nothing more to do here. I can to see the falls and I did. Now, I'd better go find a place to hide out before those dark rain clouds over head decide to pour down and drench me. I shake my head back and forth a few times, hoping to rid my jaw of the aching pain. Still the dull throb keeps pulsing, shooting pain up my muzzle and through my head. As I'm about to get up, a thick,over-sized droplet of rain splashes down onto my muzzle. I jerk back in surprise, my blue eyes widening. I shoot a hasty glance up at the sky only to receive a face-full of raindrops.
the rain suddenly begins to pour down, coating the ground in slick water. My heart starts racing once more. I scrabble against the now slick rock under foot, but I can't seem to get a grip on the hard surface. My paws slip out from under me and send me thumping back down onto the rock once more. My heart is in overdrive. My vision is getting blurry. Too much water. I'm going to drown.
I can't breathe. My vision is going black. I struggle against the pull of the ground, flailing my legs. My paws slip across the rock until I manage to snag one on a crack in the rock. I strain as I pull myself up into a standing position. My legs are shaky as I pause for a moment, my head dropped between my legs. I wheeze, sucking air into my lungs like I'd really been drowning just moments ago. The rain is soaking into what little dirty fur I have left. The water is icy on my skin. I pull my head up and lunge forward towards the edge of the falls and safe territory. Little do I know that I'm heading straight for Regnum de Mors territory. I don't care at the moment. All I need is to get out of the rain.
I scramble over the ground and rocks until I reach the safety of a cluster of trees. I'm panting, and sweat covers my body from the exertion of racing across the rain slick ground. I drag myself over to a tree and collapse at the base of the trunk. I curl up into a ball and shove my nose into my tail fur. shivers race along my spine as the rain water settles heavily on my fur. Bad idea. It was a bad idea to come to Cinder Falls. Too much open space. I was better off in the Crimson Woods, or Keenum Valley. At least there was tree cover there. I close my eyes and press back against the tree, driving my back into the bark of the trunk. The rain would stop soon and then I could leave this dreaded place.
