I've come to think up a way in which pack rankings will be determined. This is loosely modeled after real-life wolf packs.
As we all know, Alpha's and Beta's will be chosen through auditions. However, how will we figure out the rest of the rankings, you ask? By letting the rest of the wolves battle it out.
Joining Packs The third wolf to join the pack after the alpha and beta are chosen will automatically assume the highest subordinate spot, or sometimes referenced to as the Gamma. The fun begins when the fourth wolf joins the pack. Upon joining the wolf can choose to fight the Gamma for it's rank or assume the next lowest position. This would keep repeating itself.
Challenging Alpha's/Beta's/Gamma's Twice an IC year an alpha may be challenged for it's spot, and twice an IC year a beta may be challenged for it's rank. After the two challenges have been used, the alpha/beta has immunity for the rest of the IC year. Also, after a challenge an alpha/beta has 2 OOC weeks immunity. Each wolf in the pack may challenge the Gamma of the pack two times a year if they wish. After a Gamma battles it has 5 OOC days immunity.
Figuring out the rest of the pack Besides the Alpha, Beta, and maybe Gamma, there isn't going to be much squabbling about the Subordinate section. Perhaps once in a while an Omega may try to shake off it's weak entitlement. But there won't be any difference between one Subordinate wolf and another Subordinate, so there wouldn't be too much to fight about.
Glossary Alpha: The leader of the pack. Makes important decisions for the pack. Will either be a single wolf or a mating pair. Beta: The Alphas right-hand wolf. Will take over if the Alpha(s) are killed or resign. Gamma: The advisory to the Alpha and Beta. Will step up as Beta if the Alpha is killed and as the Alpha if both the Beta and Alpha are killed. Subordinate: The middle of the pack; will make up most of the packs numbers. Omega: The weakest wolf, often the runt. They are mistreated, get the last and worst choice of a kill, and often don't come along pack hunts.
